Female Excellence
I recently
became closely acquainted with a very vibrant young lady, to say the least. A
lady who inspired me to write this and want to share her story with every young
lady in our country.
Seeing that
it is Women’s month, I saw the occasion called for the celebration of this
young woman and all that she stands for. She is a beautiful soul, both inside
and out, who had the honour of being one of the select few South Africans to
represent our country at the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA)
Convention in New York from the 21st to the 27th of July.
Her name is Seithati Donnah Moshoadiba and she is larger-than-life in every
aspect of the phrase!
She
obtained 1st place in Runway, 1st place in Make-up, 1st
place in Fashion Print, 2nd place in Jean Wear, 4th place
in Swimwear and won Female IMTA Commercial Model of the year during the course
of the convention. Nevertheless, besides all these wonderful accomplishments,
she remains the humblest of people that I know.
I’m sure
one could name a few other girls that may have won similar competitions and
accomplished a lot, just like her, but remained humble, so the question is:
What really sets her apart from the rest?
It was brought to my attention that three
months before leaving for the convention in New York, she was diagnosed with Keratoconus
3, an eye disorder whereby the cornea progressively thins in the lower portion.
Despite the diagnoses, which probably would have dampened the spirits of any
other girl, she didn’t sink into a depressive state because of her
circumstances. Instead, she became even more determined in her plight to see it
through to the competition and do her utmost best, and I believe it was that
very spirit that got her these achievements.
Within the
coming weeks, she will undergo surgical procedures to treat her eye disorder
and she knows it will be a very trying time for her but she remains this beam
of sunlight; always positive and bringing happiness to everyone around her.
I admire
her and I sincerely wish more young women shared her essence for life. Her
bravery and her belief that she can conquer anything she puts her mind to, are
truly awe-inspiring qualities. She is the stuff strong woman are made of!
From female
to female, all I want is to see her succeed. I want her to live out her dream
to the greatest of her ability and for her story to be known so it can inspire
other young females to acquire that same mind set. At times, as females, we
lack that determination and that drive to pull through no matter what, and I
believe society is partially to blame for that, but its girls like her that
motivate ladies in our peer group to stay focused on the prize, despite the
odds.
Here is the
link for the press release from IMTA that announced her as one of the winners: http://www.prweb.com/releases/IMTA/PressRelease2013/prweb11011049.html. From me to her, I say girl, you can only go from strength to strength from here onwards. And from me to every other young lady that's reading this, I say follow your dream, actually, CHASE IT! You can achieve so much if you just put your soul and heart into it, that's what it is!
