When was the last time you were really bored? So bored that the thought of running a paintbrush over your living room wall, became the most exciting thing you could think of doing?

That's how I've been feeling lately, more specifically, since I got back to my beloved hometown, Lydenburg. I'm sure there's someone out there reading this and thinking: How can someone be bored in Lydenburg?! There is so much happening! Well, NEWS FLASH: this is Jacqueline Simphiwe Nkosi's blog, and for those who don't know, nothing ever really happens in my life, especially when I'm at home. I'm at that point where I should be making funny click sounds and drooling all over the furniture because these high levels of boredom are making me mentally retarded, but surprisingly, I haven't started doing that... Yet...

Instead I've been spending my days thinking about the year ahead. I know this is round about that time where some are trying to think of New Year's resolutions and planning how they are going to re- invent themselves and what-not in the coming year. I know for sure though that everyone is having the time of their life and thinking of how they are going to bring in the New Year with a loud and larger-than-life BANG!

I, on the other hand, have been doing a bit of the opposite. I've been reflecting over the past year. I actually took the time today to thank someone who played somewhat of a major role in my life this year, and I have to admit, it felt damn good! There's just something ethereal about giving thanks to someone, no matter how small and insignificant the thing they did for you may have been, even if that thing is a part of their job description.

When was the last time you took the time to let someone know that you appreciate them or just thank them for being there? Do you realize how much there is to be thankful of? Just the fact that you are alive is reason enough to give thanks, each and every day.

This year may not have been all that I wanted it to be, but I've learnt lessons, made memories and made friends that will remain forever imbedded in me. Life doesn't always turn out the way you want it to, but then, that's life. It's all about rolling with the punches that get thrown at you, that's what it is...

Forget New Year's Resolutions! My End-Of-Year Resolution is to make the most of the last few days of this year and make next year EVEN BETTER!
