Wheel of Life
What do you reckon is better, being a part of an accident and sitting through it helplessly or, witnessing the whole thing happen right before your eyes and knowing you can do absolutely nothing about it?
Life has a funny way of putting people in the most demanding situations sometimes. You could be walking on the road the one minute and then faced with a life-threatening decision the next, all in a matter of minutes, seconds sometimes.
Both of the questions asked at the beginning of this post would have rendered anybody helpless. Either way, whether you were physically part of the accident or standing on the sidelines watching it happen, you wouldn't be able to do anything. All you can do is wait for it; wait for it to end. The one thing that makes it worse is if you were to see it coming and yet, still couldn't do anything to prevent it from happening.
Just before Easter, I was in a similar situation. I know you are probably thinking right now that my life is just one failure after the other, I mean, first I got my phone stolen, then a week later I was stranded in the middle of town at night and a week after that, I'm in an accident. Well don't worry, I wasn't in the accident, so my life is not a complete train smash, but I did witness it. When I say I witnessed it, I mean I was less than 5 meters away from the car when it started spinning out of control. All I remember was my friend, the one I was walking with at the time, saying: "DAYM! THAT CAR IS FLYING!"
After that, everything just became a blur. One huge blur of screeching tires and metal scraping against paving as this body of alloy just bounced off the pavement like a toy. I'm sure from that description that one can gather that it was a horrific sight to see. When the car did finally stop spinning, I remember this distinct smell of burning rubber in the air, I'll never forget it. I took a huge breath of relief when I saw the car's passengers emerge from it unharmed.
There are so many things that happen in life, each and every day. Sometimes it may even feel like you are in one never-ending accident. You are screaming out, waiting for the car to come to a stop so you can get off and get on with your life, but life just won't let you. It just keeps spinning out of control. Sometimes, all you can do is look on, helplessly, as somebody else's life spins out of control and you just hope and pray it doesn't flip onto you or you don't get hit by flying debris from their wreckage, because let's face it, life is tough, that's what it is.
Funny thing is, as tough as it is; I still find a reason to smile, each and every day. Admit it; you do too, because life's good. Enjoy it while it lasts. :)
