A Certain Lust..
Have you noticed how the weirdest, most unusual things, can
evoke the most intense feelings in a person? How something as small as a smile
from a complete stranger, can put you in a good mood for the rest of the day,
and so forth, did you ever stop to wonder why?
This past weekend, my girls and I were blessed with the
privilege of spending time with a very - to say the least - stimulating group
of guys: The guys from the Soweto’s Finest crew. Now I will have to admit, the
minute I see someone who has appeared on TV within less than a metre’s
proximity of myself, I instantly get star struck, which means I go into dumb-mode.
I get tongue-tied, start giggling at every little thing, and
when I do manage to say something, it’s just gibberish and I come off as a
dumb, yet nerdy-looking girl, it’s sad really. So there I was, less than a
metre away from these guys, actually sitting right between two of them and I honestly
didn’t even know where to start. I was relieved when one of them broke the ice,
and from there, we were, I’d like to think, the best of buddies. J
Enough about them though, this post isn’t about them, well
not directly. This post is indirectly about them because in a way, they
inspired my thoughts at this very moment.
I’m sure some, if not most of you, have seen them perform at
some point or another, in a music video or on a tv show, but there was
something completely out of this world about seeing them perform live. Not just
them alone, but we also got a chance to witness Bongani Fassie, Kelly Khumalo
and The Soil bring the stage to life right before our eyes. It was beyond
surreal, and I found it quite hard to figure out what made that moment so
different from all the others when I had seen them just on tv, and then it came
to me, like an epiphany… I was seeing their passion first-hand!
Watching these artists live, we got to grasp their love and lust
for what they do at its fullest! It wasn’t some pre-recorded preview which had
been tweaked to suit the viewers and broadcasters vision, it was pure, raw
talent oozing from every vein in their bodies, straight to our eyes and ears.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!
Anyone could tell that these people really enjoyed what they
were doing. At that instant, on that stage, they weren’t working, they were
doing what makes them happy, that’s what it is and I admired that more than
anything else.
I also want to do what I love, who doesn’t? I want to wake
up every morning with a smile on my face, excited about the day ahead because I
know I’m going to be doing exactly what fulfils me, that’s all I want. I’m sure
I’m not the only one; I bet my girls also have similar thoughts and feelings
after this weekend and they were all raised by a simple invite over twitter,
who knew it would bring us to such a conclusion…
Right now, my girls and I may be doing IT, but we know we
are destined for much, much more. We know it won’t happen overnight or even
within a year, I mean it took Soweto’s Finest 7 years to get to where they are
today and they are still going from strength to strength.
Call us dreamers, but we are not going to quit until we get
to where we want to be, and that’s a guarantee.
