College Epiphany

Imagine if the world came to an end tomorrow. Would you be able to say that you have accomplished all that you wished in life? Would you be able to look back on your life and say: "Man have I lived!"?

I know I wouldn't. I don't think I can even say that I have begun to live. Where does living begin actually? When I was in high school, I always thought that I would start living in varsity. Unfortunately, I didn't end up there, but I did end up at the next best thing - COLLEGE! I figured my whole college career would be one never-ending Asher Roth - I Love College music video. Late nights, binge drinking, weed sessions and a medley of other things, all followed by a mild case of amnesia so I wouldn't feel that guilty the next morning. Now that would be living!

Well college for me, I don't know about the rest, has so far been nothing like that.

The first week of college, I was classified as "The Resident First Year Nerd". All I have done since I got to college is work. Work, work and (besides those odd nights when I decide to go ice-skating with the few of my friends who dare to get onto frozen ice and skate on a smaller-than-a-centimetre iron blade) more work. So technically, according to my preconceived idea of what it is to live, I hven't begun living. I haven't begun living my Asher Roth music video. It's the end of the year, and I haven't even come close to living out a single scene from Asher Roth's music video.

I guess I play it safe...

Well it's about time that changed...

I'm not saying I'm going to go crazy these last few weeks of my first years, I'm just saying that sometimes we are scared to get out of our comfort zone and try something new. I haven't tried anything new. It's time I challenged myself...

I want to look back someday on my college years and think: "Those were some of the best days of my life." I definitely won't take the Asher Roth route when it comes to trying something new, but I want to try something that will have people poclaiming their amazement at how I, of all people, did it.

Everyone lives for themselves, that's what it is. It's not about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself, moulding yourself into the person that you, not anyone else, are satisfied with. When you start doing that, that's when you start living...
