Passion Personified

Noticed how I start every blog post with a question? Well, brace yourself because this is going to be a bit of a tough one. I'm going to need you to delve deep into your soul for it. You ready...? Here goes: What was your first love? Pay attention to the fact that I asked WHAT, not WHO was your first love...

We all have that one thing that we have been in love with for as long as we can remember. That one thing that stays close to our hearts no matter what. That one thing that we promise ourselves that someday we will pursue. Funny isn't it that I say: "SOMEDAY we will pursue". Why someday? Why not now? Who amongst us can honestly say that they are doing what they love? Not what you GREW to love as the years went by because circumstances forced you to, but something you have always loved and cherished, and you do that thing with as much passion today, if not even more, as you did the day you started doing it? Who can honestly say that?

If it hasn't been made apparent yet to you, then I hereby confess that my first love is Literature. Since I could form and read words, I've been addicted to them. I remember reading my first Shakespearean novel when I was thirteen. It was "A Midsummer Night's Dream" that I read. From the very first page, I was enthralled. The way it was written just made it so whimsical and fairytale-like, it was like magic (pun intended :)). From that day onwards, I was fully convinced that I'm in love, in love with literature and all that it had to offer. The sad part is, I never did anything about it. Besides reading books, I never entered writing competitions or anything of that sort. I never did anything to pursue my first love. This blog, I could say, is my first attempt at showcasing that love that I have.

What's stopping you from going after what you love?

Nobody can tell you that your love is stupid or petty, unless you allow them to. Who are they to decide what is stupid and petty when it comes to you and your passion? I know writing is a bit nerdy, and I confess, I'm a nerd,  but I'm doing what I love, so who's better off between you and I?

Take a second now to think of what is holding you back from doing what you are passionate about. If we all just took that one second, we would realize that at the end of the day, we are holding ourselves back and using everybody and everything else as an excuse, that's what it is...

We all need to get some guts or balls or whatever it is that is required for us to get up and do something. Let's bring our passions to life. :)
