He say, She say

Have you ever started a rumour? Started a rumour so bad that you cringe when you think about it and console yourself with the plead of temporary insanity? I never had the guts, the drive or the creativity to START a rumour but I won't lie, I have SPREAD many a rumour. Some have been so far-fetched that even an inquisitive 4-year-old wouldn't believe them, but I went ahead and spread them anyway. Those moments of "temporary insanity" will forever go down my weakest ever.

I always try to think of what might have possessed me to, first of all, listen to soomething that had nothing to do with me, then secondly, go to smeone else and actually repeat it with twice as much enthusiasm and more titillating bits than the original. You can't imagine the horror when I actually find out that the whole thing is not the slightest bit true. I guess no matter how outrageous the whole thing might have been, somewhere, somehow, I believed it was true.

Funny thing is, rumours have a way of coming back to us. Just as you helped someone spice up and spread a juicy rumour, someone else out there is helping spice up and spread a juicy rumour about you. We never think about that, do we?

What possesses us then to do what we do when we know very well its going to come back and bite us in the ass? Honestly speaking, if we were all temporarily insane at the time when we started or spread a rumour, then we should all be committed to a mental asylum and locked up until Judgement Day! A rumour is a weak attempt at blowing your own horn, a very weak attempt. That's what it is...

At the end, we gain absolutely nothing...
