Melodious Dialogue
What's your all time favourite anything? Whether it's a song, movie, book or item of clothing, which one means the most to you? Have you ever taken the time to give thought to what makes it your favourite? What sets it apart from the rest?
Usually with clothing, an item is favoured more than the others because of how it accentuates certain features of your body, more often than not, features that you would consider to be assets. Legs, bust, face or curves, anything you would consider to be your bodily plus point in your plight to look your best at all times. Sometimes even your flaws, contribute a great deal toward which items you favour. Personally, I adore my summer dresses since they flaunt my legs and help draw attention away from my small bust, while still capturing that innocent, youthful beauty that is me. :)
With movies and songs, it's a bit different though. Did you notice how we choose favourites and dislikes on these two categories based on what emotions they bring up? Think about it...
Think about your all time favourite movie... How does it make you feel? Most importantly, who or what does it remind you of? Ask yourself the same questions regarding your favourite song...
Somehow these two fields have a story behind them, most especially music. Music makes you feel. Music speaks to your soul. Some would even go as far as saying that music is the universal language of mankind. If you were to go on the net right now and search for quotes relating to music, you would find quite a lot of sayings.
"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." -Berthold Auerbach
"Without music, life would be a mistake." -Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
"Were it not for music, we might in these days say, the Beautiful is dead." -Benjamin Disraeli
These are but the few I stumbled upon when I did a search and I'm sure you are sitting there nodding at how true they are. There was one particular one that really stuck out for me:
"If a composer could say what he had to say in words, he would not bother trying to say it in music." -Gustav Mahler
How true those words are!
Music always has a way of saying what we are afraid to, in exactly the way we want it to be said. Music serves the purpose of being the mediator between all that is spiritual and sensual in life. That's what it is...
Where would we be without the universal language of mankind-music?
